It is very desirable to employ a local guide as their experience and understanding will catch you a lot more fish and when I was there I saw only half of the fish the guides saw. At approximately $50 a day it is easily worth it and they need the employment that visitors bring to the economy. Most accommodation houses will organize packages including a guiding and lagoon boat but you must bring all your own gear as none’s available for hire or sale.

Where To Stay
Accommodation on Christmas Island is usually clean and adequate but basic. Food will be abundant though not fancy and there are very few shopping facilities available. The Aussie dollar is the currency of use, power is 240v, water should really only be drunk from sealed containersand there are no exotic sicknesses known.
Travel To Christmas Island
Air Pacific, The national carrier of Fiji is the only airline to fly to Christmas Islandand they do this only once a week from Fiji and Hawaii. All flights arrive on the island on Wednesdays.
