Secrets Of Being Successful At Trout Fishing
Because the locations where trout are located are considerable, it’s not a problem to take a few trout fishing trips and see if you like it. If you haven’t acquainted yourself with the fundamentals of trout fishing, you may have trouble catching these ingenious fish. If you pay attention to the little things, you stand a better chance of success. Certain variables can make a big difference, such as the weather, the temperature of the water, the season, your fishing tackle and line weight, even the way you cast can all make a difference. Trout have good eyesight and they have no problem seeing both your tackle and you. As far as hearing goes, a trout “hears” you by the vibrations you broadcast. And you won’t be able to hide your odor from them!
When you are getting close to where the trout are lurking, you can see why it’s imperative to keep these details in mind and be quiet. Since they can see you, it’s vitally important that you wear good camouflage clothing. Stick to neutral, earthy colors like brown, tan, gray and green. Vivid colored clothing, as well as white garments, should be avoided because they will catch the attention of the trout. Trout don’t have any problem sensing odors, especially distinct, strong odors like your hands have after handling tobacco products. These types of odors will keep the fish from coming closer. That’s because this smell transfers to the bait, and informs the fish that this isn’t suitable prey. So have your hands odor free when it’s time to bait your hooks or add lures. Don’t tromp your way into your fishing hole. Be as quiet and stealthy as is humanely possible.
Figure out what time of day the trout are out and about and you will have more trout to choose from. Here’s a clue. Trout food is mainly insects. So, trout are more apt to be active at the same time that the insects are most active. Early evening is a good time for this, as insects start coming out. This may not always be the case, though. You have to weigh in factors like what time of year it is and the weather patterns at the moment. When it’s very hot, for example, trout will tend to be more active early in the morning. The weather will also determine which kind of bait is most favorable to the trout. During and after rain, earthworms are washed into the water and you can use these as bait at these times. Small, flying insects such as crickets and grasshoppers land in the water when it’s windy. If you use these as bait during windy weather you will probably have better luck. It’s always best to have bait that’s similar to what the trout would normally be eating.
If you’re up for an exciting fishing trip, plan an ice fishing expedition. This is often done on lakes, and lake trout can be very large, making this kind of fishing appealing for many sportsmen. After you drill the hole, or holes, in the ice, you send down live bait to a deep depth. Be careful when you are approaching the spot where you want to ice fish. Make sure the ice is strong enough to support you. Ice fishing can be dangerous, so pay attention. Make sure your clothing fits the occasion. It should be very warm and waterproof. Frostbite is a very real possibility when you are ice fishing. If you want to learn the correct way to go ice fishing – what preparation is needed and what special equipment is necessary – hook up with an experience ice fisher and let them teach you the right way to do it.

Home to the second biggest barrier reef in the world, Belize’s Caribbean shore is a tropical paradise. With 450 cayes (islands) lining the coastline, Belize is the perfect location for sea canoeing and fly fishing. Turneffe Atoll gets most of the notice for fly fishing because of the lodges operating there but for the angler with a bold spirit, you should fly into Placencia, rent a canoe and hit some of the finest Permit and Bonefish territory in the Caribbean.

January 2010
On January 4th Frederick Leboutiller was aboard for a trip on the Cabo. He didn’t catch any keepers, but he fought a few huge Dorados and had lots of action on smaller fare. The next day client Eduard Campbell got on the same Dorado frenzy, and this client managed to boat three of the big beauties; all weighing over 30lbs. Then it was client John Swolts’ turn on the Cabo. This time Captain Vibert took him to all the good spots and he came back with a little bit of everything: two Dorados (a 20lbs. and 35lbs.), a 15lbs. Yellowfin tuna, and a pair of 12lbs. Black tunas.
With the Marlin Bite in full force, client Linda booked the Wanderer on January 15th and was at the reel for a double Marlin release: A 200lbs. Black Marlin and a 250lbs. Blue Marlin! She went looking for the grand slam, but was satisfied enough with the two big boys and a 20lbs. Dorado. It was a great day for the boat, client, and crew!
February 2010
January 22 was a fantastic day on theWanderer with Craig landing a 65+lbs.Cuberra Snapper, a 10lbs. Yellowfin Tuna, and two 10lbs. Black Tunas. In addition they managed to raise five Sailfish. We gotten to the point where we can get these Cuberras pretty much whenever we want.
Most recently client Michael Weil booked a three hour sunset cruise on theSportsman on February 12th. The bite was very active over the reef and Mr. Weil ended up boating four excellent 12lbs. Black Tunas.
February 6th was a day for the staff of Nosara Paradise Rentals to have some fun out on the water. General Manager Javier Hernandez, transporter Comi, and NPR Concierge Numero Uno Manuel took a sunset cruise on the Wanderer and hauled in a whole mess of fish, included a baby Cuberra Snapper…they returned the little fella to the blue water, but even as a youth it fought like a tiger. It’s great to see our wonderful staff have a great day out on the water!
March 2010
On March 10th client Dan Bracec went our for three hours looking for the BIG Cuberra Snappers that lurk deep within the safety of the reefs. He started out catching the requisite Black tuna, then applied our specialized FishingNosara Tactic to hook up the big boys. The fish bit, but he was just too big to fight and escaped back to the depths. These Cuberras can grow up to 400lbs., but once they get bigger than 100lbs. you can forget about catching them. A few days later client Ned Garber got himself a Snapper, but this one was much more reasonably sized.
Things got off to a fast start on February 20th when client David Yudelson put the local Black marlin population on the run. They had action in the spread all day and lost an angry 500lbs. tail-walking Black Marlin. David and the boys hung tough, and later in the day they caught and released a Black Marlin around 250lbs. He finished his day off with some topwater casting a caught a variety of reef fish. Great day David!
March 3rd brought client Henry Doggrell, Jr. on board the Wanderer for a half-day. He stayed on the reef and caught a White tuna and fifteen Black tunas. Mr. Doggrell topped that effort with this incredible 70lbs. Rooster Fish. Pound-for-pound the Rooster is one of the hardest fighting fish in the world and the biggest one we have seen around here so far this year. Awesome catch Henry!
April 2010
In late March Captain Eduardo took the Sailfish to school, raising fourteen of them and getting four all the way to the boat for the release. Watch out fish! Eduardo’s in town. April 7th brought a massive catch for client Tom who fished on board the Nice n’ Tight and released a nice Sailfish in the 80lbs. range. Captain Eduardo then hunted the reefs for some Yellowfin tuna, and Tom was burying the hooks and bending rods to the tune of twenty-five fish! Captain Eduardo made certain that Tom had a great day!
Recently client David Laudon had an incredible half-day trip. In a short time they had boated 10 triggerfish and a nice jack. Captain Vibert knows these inshore reef like none other and is always ready to bring in this kind of solid action!
On April 7th the Grove party was all over the Dorados and then finished their day off strong with a late-afternoon Black Marlin release. Even though the month started off slowly, great crews like the Wanderer’s have the skills to keep clients on fish and fish on hooks. Now that the Marlin have showed up big time, there in no reason not to expect more awesome trips.

Captain Eduardo has been fishing like a madman in the last month, and he has theNice n’ Tight back on top of the leaderboard. He’s had a great mix of sunset cruises, nature tours, and flat-out billfish hunting…the common thread? Lots and lots of smiling clients. On April 19th Captain Eduardo welcomed Jacksonville client Van Evans and his girlfriend for the first of two days fishing. Van owns a great little seafood restaurant in Florida and is no stranger to some great looking fish. Their first sunset cruise netted them a nice macarella and a ponpano. A few days later they had another awesome sunset cruise catching a delightful white tuna and a beautiful amberjack.
That same morning clients Crissy, Rich, and Robert caught five nice white tunas in just a few hours fishing. Captain Eduardo knows how to stay on the fish, evidenced by two trips on the same day catching the same species fish. His experience on these waters give him the competitive edge.
On April 27th Captain Eduardo got on a run of smacking all the Sailfish upside the head. First client Mark raised up three Sails and ended up catching and releasing a 110lbs. monster. Then on a May 5th trip client Bill got a pair of the mighty Sailfish weighing about 80lbs.-110lbs. Bill was back on the Nice n’ Tight the next day with Marlina and they knocked out another 90lbs. Sailfish. They also got a pretty white tuna and five bonitas to fill the fishbox.
Clients Kevin and Elena released a 100lbs. Sailfish on May 9th to round out the week of Sailfish action on the Nice n’ Tight.
On April 26th clients Dwayne and Katrina fishing for a half-day on the reefs. They applied our FishingNosara Cuberra Tactic and caught a beautiful 30lbs. Cuberra snapper. They rounded out their day with four sweet whites tunas. The next day client David Caywood went hunting for the big boys.
Unfortunately they didn’t get so big by being easily caught and despite raising up a Sail and a big-time Marlin they couldn’t get ‘em hooked up and to the boat. Client Daniel Fero also had an action packed day on May 4th, albeit with limited results. He got some dinner in the form of a big Yellowfin tuna, but lost a pair a Cadillac-sized snappers on the bottom. Likewise for client Bobby Leesman on May 10th, who fished a full day on came away with a 30lbs. Yellowfin tuna. He also has action throughout the day, but the fish were tough to catch.

Captain Vibert welcomed client Fredrick Porcase, his son and Chase Crews out for two action packed days. These clients had spent three days on the Wanderer chasing down billfish, yet chose the Master Captain for their assault on the reefs.
The Cabo did not disappoint! On June 14th the group caught twenty 15-20lbs. Yellowfin tunas and a pair of 12lbs. Yellowtail snappers in the morning. In the afternoon they caught two amazing 40lbs. Rooster fish and a 25lbs. Cuberra Snapper. Then on June 15th the party caught another 40lbs. Rooster fish, four 15lbs. Yellowfin Tunas, and two MASSIVE 50lbs. Amberjacks.
The 31′ Wanderer has built quite a reputation in the six short month she’s been in service as the dominant billfish hunter in the area. This month Captain William and mates Alex and David had some phenomenal billfish releases and also put clients on a wide variety of other fish. One of my best friends Jacksonville angler Chetri Dimitroff was aboard the Wanderer on May 28th and caught his first ever Pacific Blue Marlin. The fight lasted seventeen minutes and ended with a safe live release. Chetri represents FishingNosara at fishing tournaments around Florida; last year he placed in the Kingbuster 400. This trip, Chetri and his posse had an awesome time and caught nice tattooed sunburns.
After the Hurricane blew through, Lian Thomas and her group had an action packed trip on June 6th. They boated nine 15-20lbs. Yellowfin Tuna and raised four Marlin. Client Mike Kelley booked a pair of trips on the Wanderer on June 7th-8th and he enjoyed bending rods the whole time. He got a few nice Yellowfin Tuna and released a 100+lbs. Sailfish.
June 10th was a chance for the staff of Nosara Paradise Rentals to get out on the water and do a little ‘research’ for the company. General Manager Javier Hernandez, Concierge Manuel DeCampos, and Chief Groundskeeper Grevin Hernandez had great success on a three-hour sunset cruise. They caught seven 20lbs. Yellowfin tunas, a 15lbs. Ponpano, a 12lbs. Amberjack, and a 12lbs. Rainbow runner. Our staff is the best in the business and they can fish!
Another great angler and Jacksonville client Buddy Cherry filled up his refrigerator on June 15th by catching four 15-25lbs. Yellowfin tunas. These reef dwellers are as tasty as they are fun to catch. They are feisty and will fight all the way to the boat. Fortunately the North Florida anglers get plenty of practice with a wide variety of species and Mr. Cherry and his group were all over these tasty Yellowfin tunas.

General Manager Javier Hernandez, Concierge Manuel DeCampos, and Chief Groundskeeper Grevin Hernandez had great success on a three-hour sunset cruise. They caught seven 20lbs. Yellowfin tunas, a 15lbs. Ponpano, a 12lbs. Amberjack, and a 12lbs. Rainbow runner. Our staff is the best in the business and they can fish!
Another great angler and Jacksonville client Buddy Cherry filled up his refrigerator on June 15th by catching four 15-25lbs. Yellowfin tunas. These reef dwellers are as tasty as they are fun to catch. They are feisty and will fight all the way to the boat. Fortunately the North Florida anglers get plenty of practice with a wide variety of species and Mr. Cherry and his group were all over these tasty Yellowfin tunas.
